AzFOA Awards
The Arizona Football Officials Association (AzFOA) recognizes contributions by its members through several different awards. We also recognize schools who display exemplary sportsmanship during the season.

New Official of the Year
Awarded to a first-year official who shows dedication to the avocation and the willingness to
learn and advance. One award recipient per year with a nomination by Training and/or
Mentoring crew and approved by 2/3rds vote of the AzFOA BOD.
Ron Lemon - Youth Official of the Year
Awarded to an AzFOA Official who exemplifies Association values.
Is a mentor to sub-varsity officials.
Provides pre-game, in-game, and post-game guidance to help them improve.
Fosters mutual respect between officials and coaches.
One award will be given to a recipient for each area (NW, SW, NE, SE). The selection will be
made by youth assignors based on contributions observed by the assignors during the seasoned
approved by majority of the AzFOA BOD.
AzFOA Sportsmanship Award
Presented to one school in each AIA Division which best exemplifies the principles of good
sportsmanship and stewards of the game of football. Selections made by a 2/3rds vote of the
AzFOA Board based on evaluations submitted by crews during the season.
AzFOA Longevity
(e.g. 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 year awards)
AzFOA members receive a plaque upon reaching 20 years of service with the AzFOA. 5-Year
anniversary plates are awarded thereafter to be affixed to the original plaque. Must be in
good standing with the Association.
AzFOA Hall of Fame
Officials are nominated for the Hall of Fame by an AzFOA member no later than the last day
in March of the presenting year. Nominations will be solicited via the AzFOA website digital
form. Biographies must be included with the nomination and are reviewed by the Awards
Crew to determine qualified candidates. Qualified officials and their biographies are brought
before the Board for a final 2/3rds vote for acceptance. Candidates must have a minimum of
10 year’s AzFOA membership and is in good standing with the Association. This award may not
be presented some years and will be no more than 2 recipients in a given year.
Jim Murphy Volunteer Award
Presented to those who have demonstrated an “above and beyond” commitment to the AzFOA
membership and Football officiating community. Recipients are nominated by any member at
large and accepted for the award via a vote of the Board. This requires a unanimous vote by
the AzFOA BOD. This award may not be presented some years.
