Arizona Football Officials Association Hall of Fame

Richard Garcia - Class of 2024

Richard has worked many playoff games and took part in close to 10 Championship games. His position of choice is Umpire. He also oversaw the training and retention of every new official in the Tucson area for at least a decade.

Richard is the epitome of what a certified official should be in the State of Arizona. Working out of the Tucson area Richard was instrumental in the teaching, training and development of every new official that came into the AIA through Tucson. His knowledge and patience were only surpassed by his flexibility and understanding of individuals and their personalities. Every week Richard would take new officials into a dedicated space away from the meeting and teach rules, mechanics, and etiquette. He was always available to help with the NFHS test and was always able to explain in clear terms why a rule was a rule, never giving the explanation "Thats just the rule".
